incredible looking set of Beech wood drums. They are the Yamaha Absolute Custom Nouveau Series drums.
They are custom made by hand in the Yamaha factory in Japan. The smaller drums feature a thin shell while the toms, snare and bass drums have a slightly thicker shells.
Beech wood has a sound that is a combination of Maple and Birch wood. They are instantly my favorite new sound! The color is Sea Blue Fade. I hope you can hear them at an EIN or Quorum performance.

"Quorum, featuring Rick White on electric bass, Frank Seeberger on guitar, David Johnson on winds, and Garey Williams on drums, is a progressive quartet of improvisers who draw on an improbably broad range of influences. Though informed by all of the "usual suspects" from the Bop and Post-Bop eras, the musicians of Quorum are nevertheless products of their own time and experiences.
Collectively they have deep roots in R&B, Soul, Rock and Roll, Funk, Fusion and Pop, as well as Jazz. Their musical thinking has also been indelibly stamped by Classical training, a fascination with the fringes of the European Art Tradition, and an admiration for various non-western musical cultures. These broad and varied interests coalesce into an eclectic and captivating listening experience.
Quorum's probing improvisations are based largely on the original compositions of bassist Rick White and guitarist Frank Seeberger. The occasional quirkily arranged standard rounds out their repertoire. A Quorum performance features searing straight-ahead swing excursions; odd metered cerebral funk; baion, salsa and Afro-Cuban meditations; bossa and reggae elements and more.
Their dynamic and emotional range runs the gamut from thundering, visceral polyrhythmic grooves to delicate, ethereal musings that seem to float. Above all, these musicians share a highly synergetic dialogue on stage and off. "We are a very collaborative group," says Frank, "and that comes through in the way we all communicate verbally and especially musically."" The gig went great!! We are recording at the end of June.
On Saturday, May 29th, Ecstasy In Numbers performed at 7:30 at the Tacoma Jazz Festival. The festival performance was held at the First Baptist Church, 902 Market St, Tacoma WA 98402. Thanks to Rich Weitzel for inviting us to play! Next year we have been asked back. Tacoma Jazz Festival website.

"Garey Williams displays a beautiful touch and emotion in his drumming. He performs with a strong technique and a keen sense of what to play in a studio situation to achieve the correct balance within a jazz/rock trio setting. His drums sound fat, wet, and well recorded.
His cymbal work is very expressive...possesses noteworthy chops..."

"Williams sounds like a combination of Vinnie Colaiuta and Peter Erskine through his careful attention to the orchestration of each section of the tune. His relaxed, flowing style suits the music, yet he is always pushing the other players to new heights.
