September 2005
On Monday, September 12th I visited the SABIAN cymbal factory in New Brunswick, CANADA and selected an updated set of SABIAN cymbals!! I toured the factory and saw the manufacturing process for all of Sabian's cymbals. The highlight was spending the day in the SABIAN Vault with Mark Love selecting cymbals.
Mark Love has amazing ears and, when describing a cymbal, was able to help me select some and create some for me as well.
I was able to go through 40+ ride cymbals and selected the best sounding Hand Hammered Bounce Ride. Mark had the cymbal craftsman create a Prototype ride that sounds amazing. I was also able to go through many crash, splash, china and other effects cymbals and select a set that sounds great together.
They were able to tune some cymbals with additional lathing, hammering and adding rivets to my new big band china cymbal.
I took all my cymbals and was able to select a second set of some of my crashes and splashes. They also cleaned and restamped new updated logos on all my existing cymbals.
I have been a big Sabian fan for many years and after the factory visit I am even more impressed with the attention to detail, quality workmanship, incredible sounding cymbals and, best of all, all the staff were so polite and helpful. I would like to thank Mark Love, Ann MacNally, Wayne Blanchard, Robert Mason for the factory tour, Greg Hart and Jonathon Yip for all your assistance. I would also like to thank Christian Stankee and Dom Famularo for making this trip possible.
You folks are the greatest. I look forward to another visit in the future. Thank you SABIAN!!!! For pictures of my visit go to the SABIAN website.
